Early in this school year, God and I were having a vibrant time of it. He was showing me things in my life, in His plan, and I was meeting new people who inspired me immensely to continue on in service for Jesus. And what was great was seeing how the Holy Spirit had been guiding me - all my life, it seemed was working together to bring me to that time. I believe that still. But that was then, and now I am waiting. Not just at this instant, in this place in Eldoret, but in my life as well: it would seem that I have climbed a hill to this place, struggling against downward movement, to arrive at a better place with God. Now that I'm here, though, the question I have asked is this: if I believed that God was guiding in the rapids, and leading my life while I was moving forward with Him so quickly, do I believe it still? In little 'hardships', as when I'm crammed in a taxi with too many other people for 3 hours or when I'm getting sick from climate change and fatigue; what about now? Or in the ease, when I'm simply spending days sightseeing with a friend. Is God - the Omnipresent, Omniscient, Omnipotent, all loving God I believe He is - still guiding in every step?
And the conclusion I come to is that He is. I may feel closer to Jesus in the times when my other option is to give up in the hardship, instead of pushing on with Him. I feel closer to God when life is difficult and I can't see where I'm going, or how I'll have strength to arrive. But in times when life seems easier, I can trust that if God leads in the hard times, He leads just as much – maybe even more – in the ‘easy’ times.
In a waiting time, like mine, I look to scripture and pray through the well memorised text of Proverbs 3:5-7: 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your
paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.'
